Indeed agree that keeping wages a secret only benefits the employer. Adding more transparency will improve employee wages at the bottom, definitely. However, the more nuanced argument is how will we feel about knowing whether our co-workers making more or less than us. A colleague that we think doesn’t do much, may actually add tons of value to the business (in ways that we don’t see).

Perhaps better that we direct our discontent and hatred at upper management rather than at each other. After all, we’re all just chasing a different pile of peanuts while the those at the top swim in millions.
