In many cases, it is indeed oppression. However, the issue doesn’t arrive from the fact that oppression does exist in certain pockets of society. The issue arises when the nuances of one cultural phenomenon aren’t considered by those looking in from the outside.

I think American society is too quick to judge and villify the other side (whatever the other side may be). In doing so, many perspectives are ignored.
