Hi James — Thanks for the comment. While I don’t deny that there are biological effects associated with depression, the jury is still out on the causal direction of this relationship. However, even if we were to assume that it is indeed the biology that causes the depression, then there are still many arguments that can be made about whether there are any actions that can be taken to “get someone out of depression.” After all, there is evidence that shows that therapy without medication works. And what is therapy other than a way of shifting mindsets and perspectives?
